Employee Philanthropy
Colonial Life in the Community
At Colonial Life, we have long recognized the responsibility we have to our communities and to being a strong, proactive partner in civic and charitable efforts.
Colonial Life's employees are the heartbeat of our company and our community. Without their contributions of time and talents, we would not be able to achieve our commitments to improving the quality of life in our communities. Colonial Life supports employee philanthropy through a variety of programs and initiatives.
Colonial Life employee volunteers support our corporate community enrichment endeavors by focusing interests on donating blood, fundraising for and participating in walk-a-thons and races and coordinating book fairs and collection drives for items such as school supplies, personal care toiletries, clothing and the pantry.
Our employees are encouraged to serve at local schools as mentors, lunch buddies, book club facilitators, classroom readers, Junior Achievement teachers, tutors, and room assistants. Colonial Life has been engaged in a long-term partnership with a local middle school since 2002 to help improve the academic and life skills of its students. We’re also engaged in a partnership with Boys and Girls Clubs of the Midlands to provide character education and youth enrichment activities to elementary school students.
Colonial Life has a company goal of providing at least 8,000 volunteer service hours to our local communities. We enable our employees to volunteer in their communities by allowing them paid time off to volunteer in specific corporate initiatives.
To recognize the volunteer efforts of our employees, we established the Frank Sumner Smith Jr. Volunteer of the Year Award. This award is given annually to an employee who exhibits excellence in volunteer activities in the community, who exhibits a positive outlook about volunteerism, is an inspiration to co-workers and whose activities have had a definite effect on the quality of life in the community. Colonial Life contributes a cash donation to the award recipient's charity of choice.
